To write too much about ME would be long, boring and not really relevant to the Blues 4 Jesus website.
I have been a nominal Christian all my life and a practicing one for about the last 20 years. I have also been involved in bands and solo music for about 30 years, but the two have never really mixed.
I like some of the hymns and anthems we sing in our Fellowship, but there are not too many that really move me. There are a few praise songs that I have heard which strike a chord, but usually the sight of acoustic guitars and tambourines sends me scuttling in the opposite direction. I like listening to certain choral works, but not particularly singing them.
Two artists have really brought about a reconciliation within me and opened up the possibilities of performing powerful music with Christian themes; Phil Keaggy and Glen Kaiser. Phil is simply one of the greatest guitarists I have ever heard in any arena, Christian or otherwise. His version of “John the Revelator” put me on the right track.
Glen’s album, “Spontaneous Combustion” is a top-notch Chicago Blues album, and his vocal style is not too far off my own. This really opened my eyes as to what could be achieved.
It has been years since I discovered these superb musicians and felt their influence and in the intervening years, I could have done something, but other projects have always come first. Now I’m trying to correct this omission and only one question remains: Can Christadelphians sing the Blues?
